A lot of Memorial Day talk centers on long weekend plans, barbecues and sales at the mall, but what do you know of the holiday's origins? According to MemorialDay.org, the holiday, originally called Decoration Day, was borne out of the Civil War and a desire to honor our dead. It was officially proclaimed on May 5, 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic.

Armonk Lions' Fol-De-Rol To Benefit Local, National Charity Efforts

Armonk Resident Celebrates 107th Birthday With Flowers, Cake

Armonk resident Marian Henry has lived through two world wars, the Depression, 19 presidents, Charles Lindbergh's famed cross-Atlantic flight and man's arrival on the moon. Henry celebrated her 107th birthday at The Bristal, an assisted living center, Thursday with friends, bouquets of purple and pink flowers, some bubbly, and a big cake with plenty of frosting.
