When Should Your Child Get A Smartphone, Armonk?

The research firm Influence Central revealed that children are now getting their first smartphones at around 10, a decrease from the average age of 12 in 2012, The New York Times reported. According to data from Jesse Weinberger's book "The Boogeyman Exists: and He's in Your Child's Back Pocket," it may be better for parents to hold off giving smartphones, and letting their children use computers and tablets without the distractions of games, sexting apps and online bullies and predators, said The New York Times.

Heat Advisory Issued For Armonk With Humidity Increasing

Increased humidity, coupled with projected temperatures in the low 90s, has resulted in the National Weather Service issuing a Heat Advisory for Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties from noon to 8 p.m. Monday. A heat advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected it to make it feel like it is 100 to 104 degrees for consecutive hours.

Even as IBM Corp. officials report that the Armonk-based global technology firm is making gains in the areas of analytics and cloud technology, concern is growing after the company posted revenue losses for the 17th straight quarter, and hinted at future layoffs, according to multiple reports. The massive consulting and technology company with offices throughout New York, posted revenue of $20.2 billion for the second quarter, which is down about 2.6 percent from last year.

Developer Proposes 200 Luxury Apartments In North Castle

A New Jersey developer is proposing to build a 200-unit luxury apartment complex on a portion of the St. Christopher's property in North Castle. According to a letter sent to North Castle Supervisor Michael Schiliro earlier this month, developers are asking the town to re-zone as multi-family 22 acres of the nonprofit organization's Jennie Clarkson Campus at 1700 Old Orchard St. Armonk attorney Anthony F. Veneziano, who is representing the developers, JMF Properties LLC, said the project -- to be called The Vue -- will consist of a mix of 40 percent one-bedroom rental units and 60 percent two-bedroom units.
